History of The Run Out Symbol

The circular run out icon was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in the mid-20th century. It was developed to create a standardized symbol for usage in mechanical or manufacturing purposes. 

Meanwhile, the total runout symbol was first standardized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 1994 as part of the Y14.5 standard for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Since then, both symbols have become widely popular in engineering drawings and manufacturing processes across the globe.
