Bankai is a word from the Japanese manga and anime series Bleach. The word Bankai means final release in English. When a Shinigami has reached full mastery of their Zanpakuto, they are said to have achieved bankai.
Who invented Bankai?
The Zanpakutō was conceived and invented by Ōetsu Nimaiya of the Royal Guard. The terms “Zanpakutō”, “Shikai”, and “Bankai” were chosen and given by another member of the Royal Guard, Ichibē Hyōsube, whose Zanpakutō was also the first to gain an evolved form, known as a Shin’uchi.
